Two men were arrested by the police for gang-r@ping a 12-year-old girl in Yobe.
Two men have been detained by the Yobe State Police Command for r@ping a 12-year-old girl in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, February 16, 2025, said police operatives also rescued a 15-year-old kidnap victim after a gun duel and recovered dangerous weapons, including a single-barrel gun.
According to the statement, Bawa Saidu (22) and Weti Saleh (25) were detained by the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters on February 15, 2025 at about 3:30 PM in Jalingo Village, Tarmuwa LGA.
The suspects conspired and gang-r@ped a 12-year-old girl, inflicting serious injuries. The victim was given immediate medical attention, and the suspects were taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Damaturu for a private investigation.
In a separate matter, the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters and Vigilante were involved in rescuing Hassan Alh Yau (15) from Kojolo Hamlet, Dadawel Village. The victim was kidnapped on February 12, 2025, by criminal elements who demanded a ransom.
The rescue operation was successful and the dangerous weapons, including a single-barrel gun, were recovered. After a gunfight, the suspects fled and left behind the victim and their belongings. Efforts are being made to capture the suspects who are fleeing.
"As security strengthens in Damaturu, the state capital, some miscreants were apprehended using an uncompleted building at Alimari Ward, Damaturu, to conceal stolen properties.
"A Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call and swiftly mobilized to raid the building, arresting three suspects, including Sale Ahmadu of Nasarawa ward, the gang leader. The suspects were found in possession of a dismantled motorcycle and other stolen items. They confessed to the crime during interrogation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, commended the efforts of the Command, reiterating its sustained commitment to fighting criminal elements in the state.”
