A female powerlifter passed away at the gym due to a 270kg rod falling on her neck while she was practicing.
The 17-year-old hails from Bikaner district in Rajasthan, India.
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, 270 kg rod fell on the gold medalist player, causing her neck to break, according to Naya Shahar SHO Vikram Tiwari as reported by PTI.
She was exercising while under the direction of her trainer, who also suffered minor injuries.
"Yashtika was lifting weights at the gym, Power Headquarters, under her trainer's supervision. During the attempt, she suddenly lost balance, and the bar came crashing down on her neck. Fellow gym members quickly rushed to remove the weight, while her coach tried CPR, but she showed no signs of recovery," SHO Tiwari told the media.
Yashtika is seen in a video attempting to lift the weight. According to reports, she attempted again after her first attempt was successful. However, this time, she lost control and fell backwards, pushing her coach as well. The weight all fell onto her neck and she collapsed moments later.
Social media is abuzz with the video of the gruesome incident.
The young athlete's d3ath has caused people to express their sorrow.
In the Sub Junior 84kg and above category at the National Bench Press Championship in Goa, Yashtika was victorious with a gold medal.
