The couple who have the world's longest kiss, which lasted for 58 hours and 35 minutes, have announced their separation.
The couple who set the world record for the longest kiss has left each other.
In 2013, Thailand's Ekkachai Tiranarat and his wife Laksana broke the Guinness World Record by keeping their lips sealed for 58 hours and 35 minutes.
Ekkachai revealed the couple's split during the new BBC Sounds podcast, Witness History, but he expressed his pride in the record.
According to Ekkachai, the competition's stringent rules included sustaining the kiss during toilet trips and having to pass water between each other's mouths, which he claims made the experience far from enjoyable.
'I am very proud. It was a once in a lifetime experience,' he told host Megan Jones on the podcast.
'We spent a long time together and I'm trying to remember the good memories and that we did this together.'
The competition saw two-time winners Ekkachai and Laksana break the world record for the longest kiss in 2011, which lasted 46 hours and 24 minutes.
For 58 hours and 35 minutes, the couple managed to keep their kiss going in 2013.
'There were a lot of people there, there were around 14 couples competing and a lot of media hovering around them,' he said.
'I felt like I was going to faint, some of the spectators handed me an inhaler to support me along the way.'
Ekkachai recalled being 'stunned' by the rules for the world record attempt, which demanded that 'lips must be touching at all times' and 'the couple must be awake at all times.'
Contestants were required to stand during the attempt according to the rules, and they were not allowed to use any aids. Also, adult nappies, diapers, or incontinence pads were prohibited.
Couples were permitted to use the restroom, but they had to keep kissing while doing so.
Ekkachai and Laksana 'decided the show had to continue despite the harsh regulations'
During the final stages of the competition, which ended on February 14, 2012, they noticed that their opponents had raised their hands to indicate they had reached their limit.
Ekkachai recalled their victory and felt that their joy was overshadowed by their exhaustion. I just wanted to relax and have a drink.'
