Portable is granted bail of N2m after pleading not guilty to alleged assault.

 


Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, who has been embroiled in controversy, has been granted bail by the Isabo magistrate court in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

 

This morning, the singer was charged with five counts of conspiracy, assault, and restriction, armed with cutlasses and guns, and conduct that could cause harm.

 

He stated his innocence to the charges. Nine of his assistants were accused of similar crimes before Magistrate O L Oke.

 

The nine suspects are Nurudeen Warris, 21, Adetola Alashe, 25, Samuel Adeleke, 28, Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19, Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20, Gospel Kanu, 20, Precious Ohiegebo, 19, Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27, and Fatimo Muhammed, 26.

 

The defendants were arraigned on a five-count charge of felony, assault, and restriction. They were armed with cutlasses and guns, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, and intent to kill.

 

Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, who are town planners, have been accused of assaulting, restricting, and obstructing by them. During their lawful duties at Portable's Odogwu Bar, the defendants and Portable allegedly assaulted three town planning officers.

 

Following his plea of not guilty to the charges, his lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, asked the court for his bail. According to his counsel, the singer is now remorseful and has learned his lessons.

 

Magistrate O L Oke granted bail of N2m with one surety in the same sum and adjourned the case until March 5 for trial.
