Peter Obi will be the Labour Party's candidate to face Tinubu in 2027.

Peter Obi, a former Anambra State Governor, has been confirmed by the Labour Party (LP) as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Obi, who contested under the LP in 2023, lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), finishing third behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Abayomi Arabambi, the LP's National Publicity Secretary, Tinubu will face a more difficult challenge in the next election when speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today.

“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027, we are coming back with that Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious,” he said.

The recent resignation of actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo from the party was addressed by Arabambi, who dismissed it as insignificant.

“And we wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, his resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” he stated.

He dismissed claims of internal crises within the party, stating that the LP is still a dominant force ahead of the next elections. The Labour Party is not experiencing a leadership crisis. The Labour Party will not fade away. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors, Arabambi asserted.
