Mother and her two children were burned to death in the Ondo fire.
A woman and her two children have died in an fire outbreak in the Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
On Sunday night, February 16, 2025, a fire disaster happened at Rainbow Street, off Onipakala Junction, where residents were asleep.
According to reports, the petty trader and her two children, Bukola and Ifeoluwa, were burned beyond recognition in the fire incident.
A neighbor who spoke in confidence told me that they witnessed the fire around midnight, when the deceased and her children were fast asleep.
Unfortunately, we were unable to save them. The source informed Daily Trust that the fire lasted for hours and destroyed the building where they were trapped.
The chairman of the landlord association on the street, who identified himself as Mr Adegbulu, said firefighters in the town failed to show up, reportedly citing a lack of water and chemicals.
We got in contact with the fire service while the fire was raging, only to learn that there was no water or chemicals available. According to him, the officer immediately turned off his cell phone.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the incident, saying the bodies of the deceased persons had been moved to the morgue of the State General Hospital in Ondo.
