Ladipo and Owode Onirin markets in Lagos were gutted by a midnight fire, resulting in the loss of millions of Naira.
A fire that engulfed Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, Lagos on February 25 resulted in the destruction of goods worth millions of Nigerian dollars.
Eyewitnesses report that the fire at Ladipo Market occurred around 1 a.m., causing damage to multiple shops and warehouses that were filled with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that there were no fatalities in either incident, and they successfully put out the fire by 6 a.m.
Emergency teams from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations were involved in combating the flames at Ladipo Market, as confirmed by Margaret Adeseye, director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Despite the difficulties of accessing the affected areas, firefighters were successful in containing the fire and stopping it from spreading to neighboring properties and businesses.
At the same time, a fire erupted at Owode Onirin Market on Ikorodu Road, causing damage to several shops that sell metallic materials. The situation was brought under control before 5 a.m. by firefighters from Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations who responded swiftly.
The cause of both fires will be determined by investigations once firefighting operations reach the dampening-down stage, as Adeseye reassured the public.
“Thankfully, no casualties were recorded in either incident. The causes of the fires will be ascertained as soon as firefighting operations progress to the next stage,” she stated
