A suspected cultist was arrested by police after sh00ting a man during a funeral procession in Edo.
A suspected cultist has been taken into custody by the Edo State Police Command for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted murder.
On Sunday, February 9, 2025, CSP Moses Joel Iyamu, the command's spokesperson, made a statement about this.
Kelly Osayawe, who is the suspected shooter, shot a store owner named Nzube Cletus Mbum while a funeral procession was taking place in the Aduwawa area of Benin city.
"On the 7th February, 2025 at about 1000hrs along Old Road Aduwawa Benin City, one Kelly Osayawe 'm' aged 25yrs, a member of Vikings Cult group was invited by his friend named "Nice" also a member of Vikings Cult group to his mother's burial at Old Road off College Road Aduwawa, Benin City," the statement read.
"During the burial procession, the said Kelly Osayawe 'm' who is armed with locally made cut to size pistol loaded with four (4) live cartridges firing shots into the air, shot one Mr. Nzube Cletus Mbum who was standing in front of his shop and the pellet cause him injury on his hand, leg and back.
“The said Kelly Osayawe 'm' made an attempt to run away but was chased and apprehended with assistance from members of the public.”
