A mass grave in Libya contained the bodies of 28 migrants.
A mass grave in a desert in south-east Libya has been found to contain the bodies of at least 28 migrants.
Just days before a mass grave with 19 bodies was discovered on a farm in the same city, a grave with 19 bodies was discovered near Kufra.
The country's attorney general said officials found the latest grave following a raid on a human trafficking site, where authorities freed 76 migrants who had been detained and tortured, the office of the attorney general posted on Facebook.
One Libyan and two foreigners were detained, according to the report.
The statement alleges that a gang deliberately denied the freedom of illegal migrants, tortured them, and subjected them to cruel, humiliating, and inhumane treatment.
The search in Kufra, more than 1,700 kilometres (1,056 miles) from Libya's capital Tripoli, is continuing.
According to the attorney general, the bodies recovered have been sent for autopsy, and investigators have suspected connections to smuggling networks.
The testimonies of survivors are being documented by authorities.
In the southwest of Libya last year, a mass grave was discovered that contained the bodies of at least 65 migrants. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) described it as 'deeply shocking' at the time.
