A 65-year-old man was remanded by the court for allegedly r3ping an 8-year-old girl in Anambra.

 



Joseph Nwankwo, 65, has been remanded in custody by the Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka, Anambra State for the alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl.

 

The defendant has been charged with one count of defilement.

 

As per the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Chinyere Okechukwu, the accused, committed the offence on December 28, 2024 at Ekwulobia in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra.

 

According to the mother of the eight-year-old girl, her daughter complained of waist pain.

 

After inspecting, she discovered that her daughter's vagina was swollen.

 

The girl's defilement was confirmed by a medical practitioner after a medical examination and enquiry at General Hospital Ekwulobia.

 

The eight-year-old revealed that the defendant has been having sex with her.

 

According to Okechukwu, the offense was in violation of Section 130(2) (a) (b) of the Administration Criminal Justice Law 2022. She pleaded with the court to remand the suspect to a correctional facility.

Nevertheless, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

 

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs U.E. Onochie, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Awka Correctional facility pending advice by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions(DPP).

 

Onochie adjourned the case until March. 12, for report of compliance.
