21 couples have a mass wedding conducted by a Catholic Bishop in Niger state

On February 16, 21 couples were married in a mass ceremony conducted by Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese.

The ceremony, which took place at the St. Mark Catholic Church in Nsanji Nkoso, Magama local government area, had in attendance couples who had completed their traditional marriage rites and undergone three months of marriage counselling.

According to Bishop Yohanna, the ceremony was necessary to guarantee that the couples were legally married according to the church.

The point was made that cohabiting is not appropriate until a couple is legally married and blessed in the church. According to the bishop, marriage is a lifetime commitment and couples should build their marriages on love and companionship.

Mr. and Mrs. Cyprian Uche, one of the couples, expressed their gratitude to the bishop for aiding them in formally establishing their union. The couple, who had lived together for 22 years and have five children, expressed their excitement to finally get married after 22 years of cohabiting. Mrs. Uche stated that she can now hold positions in the women's fellowship, which she was previously not capable of doing.
